Some days ago Cynthia Nogar shared her recoreding of the ice break up at Lake Superior. To just illustrate the interesting variety of ice melting sounds, I just uploaded a file with another ice recording, from a small pond where I live, at the peninsula Nesodden outside Oslo, Norway. As you might hear, the ice melting in this case sounds rather violent, partly due to differences in temperature between day and night. Other times (not on this particular recording) it is possible to hear some som high pitched "pings", which make the feeling of being in the middle of a shooting scene in a cowboy movie. Equipment: Sonic Studios head-style mics, just placed hung n the air a few centimetres over the surface of the ice. Recorded on SD 702. All the best, Gjermund Kolltveit Gjermund Kolltveit Hellaveien 66 N-1458 Fjellstrand Norway www.musark.no |
