I recorded Mexican Free-tailed bats streaming out in the evening and diving back in in the morning at their northernmost brood cave in Northern California. I used MD, so my frequency response cut off at 16kHz. The fly-out sound consisted of a roar of wingbeats, scattered flap sounds that I suspect might be wing-tip collisions, and an audible high-frequency chatter. The high-speed return dives make dramatic zipping sounds. -Dan Dugan |
