For unattended recording, consider the Wildlife Acoustics Song Meter
http://www.wildlifeacoustics.com/songmeter/

The Song Meter costs $600 including a pair of water resistant mics.
This does not include the SDHC flash memory card, so budget $100 for
two 4GB cards. (The actual price for flash memory will probably be
lower. I recently purchased a 4GB SDHC card on sale for $9!) Total
Song Meter cost ($600 + $100) =3D $700.

If you're interested in recording using underwater mics (hydrophones)
or other mics of your own, then order the Song Meter that has XLR
inputs instead of the built-in mics. For some reason, the Song Meter
with XLR inputs costs $50 more than the model with built-in mics.

The web site for the Froglogger IV from Bedford Technical is here
http://www.frogloggers.com/

The Froglogger IV costs $350, not including the required Marantz
PMD660 flash memory recorder (about $450) or Compactflash memory card
(two 4GB cards, about $100). Total Froglogger cost ($350 + $450 +
$100) =3D $900, not including microphones.
