I have an Sony MZ-R700 minidisc recorder and wish to transfer tracks to my PC via an audio cable and the standard mic input socket. I heard there are third party software applications that will record to PC AND save files simultaneously as MP3. IOW you don't have to convert from WAV to MP3 as a separate step. Can anyone please advise me regarding any shortcomings of this, and which software for the purpose is considered best? In such a case, how does the quality of the final MP3 file compare subjectively with that of a file that had been transferrred direct from a Hi-MD recorder as PCM and then converted to MP3?
