USA Online Audio Retailers and Their Return Policies

I live in an area that does not have a pro audio retail store nearby.
So I purchase from an audio retailer with an Internet store.

Once the equipment is ordered online and the package is delivered, I
may discover that the gear does not meet my needs for some reason.
For example, an audio recorder may not work to my satisfaction with
the mics I already own. Or the recorder's controls may be difficult
to manipulate. Or perhaps the recorder's mic preamps are not quiet
enough for nature recording. Or maybe the battery life is too short
to be useful.

If I'm not satisfied, then I want to return the gear for a refund.

Several retailers are willing to accept returns of opened items and
provide a full refund. I have listed them below in two groups: Those
retailers that allow you 30 days or more to evaluate the product
before returning it, and retailers who allow 15 days or less
(sometimes a lot less).

It's a good idea to talk with the vendor's representative about their
policies before placing your order. If you are requesting a refund,
be careful to follow all requirements of the retailer for the item's
return.

Any return must be in "as-new" condition. The returned item must
include all packaging, documentation and other paperwork. If the
equipment or other items in the package show any sign of wear, the
retailer may charge a re-stocking fee, or may refuse to accept it at
all. As long as you're very careful with the equipment, there should
be no problem receiving a refund.

I find that the retailer will have fewer questions about a return if
you are able to make the decision in a few days. So make an effort to
evaluate your purchase promptly.

No retailer refunds the cost of shipping if you want a refund. You
will have to pay for shipping to and from the dealer. To me, that's a
small price to pay for the chance to evaluate new gear at home, using
your mics and other gear you already own.
