Fellas & Gals,
In 1990, while still a member of NARAS (Nat. Academy of Recording
Arts & Sciences), I submitted a proposal to have natural sounds
(soundscapes and species-specific recordings) represented as a
professional level recording arts category. The proposal was also
submitted in subsequent years, but to no avail. The issue: there
weren't enough members in NARAS who could adequately judge one
product submission from another.
With the Naturerecordists group, however, that may have changed. If
there is enough interest in having this genre recognized as a
category, we would need to do a few things in order to make that
happen. In discussing this w/ Dan Dugan today, here's a possible
approach if, indeed, there is interest.
(1) There needs to be a representative membership, possibly from this
group, willing to join the organization. Cost $100USD/year. Here's
their web address for additional info: http://www.hoovers.com/naras/--
ID__124447--/free-co-factsheet.xhtml
(2) Once established, one or several of us would need to submit yet
another proposal to the organization to initiate reconsideration. If
there is a fair number of members to engage at that level, I think
we'd finally succeed.
Any interest in this as an issue?
