My favourite forest sample ever, this is one of the first recordings I do using John Hartog's 'tree ears' as described in http://www.rockscallop.org/how/183/183mount01.html (thank you!). The fragment is part of a longer (10 min) recording which can be accessed here: http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/samplesViewSingle.php?id=43661 Rig was 2 Soundman OKM binaural capsules (a bit hissy, I know) covered with DIY windscreens, FEL BMA1 preamp, and one iRiver H120 recorder. Capsules were fixed with a nylon 'belt' to a tree trunk at 1.5 m, then left unattended. This was great, because warblers approached and even fluttered near the mics (my guess being they were curious about the weird furry things). Amazing how well this light, relatively cheap setup works as regards stereo image and protection from wind. Actually I'm thinking of selling the bulky zeppeling and the Senn M/S setup and get a pair of Shure WL183, really! Best regards Dobroide |
