Inexpensive recording equipment

Hi all you experts out there.

I am just a housewife with a small housewife budget. I love to hear
the birds singing in my garden (I feed them regularly). I have tried
with the small recorders we have, but the noise of the recorder itself
drowns out the sounds of the birds.

Please understand that I am only trying to record the birds from my
garden - in the early morning, and late evening mostly.

I tried Lang Elliott and he redirected me to you guys. I have been
reading some of your messages, and must admit to everything being way
over my head, but I do enjoy your recordings links.

I like to play the tapes in my car during the winter months to cheer
me up on dreary days. I am not looking to identify or separate the
songs, (I have Mr. Elliott's CD's for that!), but if you could help me
I would be forever grateful.

Sincerely,
Julie Blake
