Noise pollution threatens birds

Near my home in Washington state, I often hear white-crowned sparrows 
trying mightily to be heard over the din in suburban shopping malls--
among their favorite places to gather. 

I've often wondered about the impact of man-made noise on birds.  And 
sadly, this article suggests that noise has a big impact.
