Hi Ted,
I was trying out the FR-2LE and my Telinga Twin Science mic with their
21" dia parabolic reflector and handle. The bird was very close,
hence the good quality. I wanted to try the FR-LE2 because with more
distant vocalizations one either has to turn up the gain to the point
where there is much hiss, or the signal is so small it's lost in the
minimal hiss one gets anyway. I don't really understant much of the
technical aspects of all this. The FR-LE2 doesn't seem to have an
obvious advantage in less hiss than the Marantz PMD-671 that I've used
up to now. I like the controls on Marantz, > battery life, and the
ability to start a recording over on the fly.
