Welcome.  I have found it full of friendly people, as a relative newcomer m=
yself.

One of the participants on this list, Aaron Zimm, has a website called The =
Quiet American.
It has all sorts of advice on it.  Aaron is a master at recording urban and=
 cultural
soundscapes in a stealthy mode with binaural, stereo gear.  You can not go =
wrong
listening to him.  He will set you up very nicely with just what you need t=
o record
Manhattan.
