oktavas are very good, but they tend to be somewhat sensitive to windnoise. i
personally prefer dynamic microphones with parabolic reflectors - you could
even try a shure sm 58; i am sure you could borrow one and try out.

Subject: [Nature Recordists] A good, inexpensive microphone for my parabolic
reflector...
Hello all! I am currently building a 22" parabolic reflector rig, and
am searching for the best microphone for the job. I need XLR output and
a maximum price of $200 used. I have looked at the Samson C02 and the
Oktava 012... Any thoughts? Thanks, Chris
