Nagra's web site recently added a page listing the design
specifications for the new Nagra VI field recorder. See
http://www.nagraaudio.com/pro/pages/products_nagra_vi.php
The new machine has six inputs. Four will have independent preamps
for microphone input. These four also can switched for use with
analog line level signals. The remaining two inputs can be set for
line level analog (making a total of 6 line inputs) or AES digital.
Quantization will be at rates up to 24/96. Files will be in BWF
format. Storage will be to internal hard disc or to Compactflash
(both simultaneously, most likely).
The Nagra VI will have an assortment of pro features, like SMPTE time
code input and output, LED and color LCD displays for input levels,
programmable pre-roll, M/S decoder, and jacks for two sets of
headphones. Power will be provided by an external battery pack.
The box that all these features fit in will be similar in size to the
Zaxcom DEVA V and the HHB Portadrive. At 7 to 10 lbs, these machines
can just barely be considered to be "portable."
The Nagra V will be released by the end of 2007. Price has not been
announced.
