This is an interesting point. It is ideal for everything to have
multiple uses, but how far do we take that idea? Microphones, for
example, are a fundamental recording tool. That is the single purpose
they serve (and should serve!), but they are certainly worth carrying
on your back...

Most items will do one thing very well. Considering that the primary
purpose of the backpacking venture is to make recordings, perhaps we
ought to choose a microphone stand that primarily performs the duty of
supporting the microphone(s) very well, but that can also be used as a
hiking stick.

That's probably better than choosing a hiking stick that can double as
a microphone stand with a bit of help from some rocks or dirt or trees
or rope or whatever else we've come up with here. [No offence meant to
anyone here, by the way...]

With that in mind, I'd like a microphone stand or tripod with
detachable legs that could be used as hiking sticks.
