I think the really sad part is that Sony could easily create an inexpensive WAV and ATRAC recorder with high quality preamps that uses flash memory rather than minidisc as the storage medium. Sony already makes MP3 players and digital voice recorders that use flash memory. Following the same line of reasoning, HHB should release a new version of its Portadisc MDP 500 recorder. This recorder has a stellar preamp, but it's still using standard minidisc with ATRAC as its storage solution. By changing the storage to Compactflash and improving the rate of quantization to 24/96 or 24/192, HHB could give the Sound Devices 702 real competition. --oryoki |
