The FR-2LE specifications look very promising. One should not confuse
the S/N ratio figures with the absolute preamplifier noise floor
levels. The lower S/N ratio of the FR-2LE (85dB) compared to its
bigger brother FR-2 (87dB) might be simply a result of a reduced
microphone input clipping level, caused by its lower battery supply
voltage. A naturerecordist will probably never experience a dynamic
range of 85 dB out there. Except perhaps during a thunder storm...
