Here's another vote for the Tamrac Expedition series. I bought an
Expediton 8 for a trip to Yosemite and I loaded it with a 4x5 camera,
film, meters, etc. and strapped my carbon fiber Gitzo tripod to the
outside. I also found out how out of shape I was!! ;) The only
downside to this package was the size. I almost didn't get it into the
overhead storage bins of the smaller plane we took into Fresno so keep
that in mind if you get the Model 8 and plan to fly with it. I didn't
let the baggage handlers anywhere near this kit.

I'm now in the market for another backpack for the same reason you
are. I want to load my audio gear into a smaller version so I'm
looking at getting the Expedition 5 this time. The part I really like
is the tripod strapping system which I'll probably use for a smaller,
lighter light stand similar to the ones that Walt uses for field work.
