The first activity of a new group, Carolina Sounds of Nature Group (Carolin=
a
SONG) will be a conference for nature recordists and anyone interested in
recording natural sounds. The conference will be at Cheraw State Park,
Chesterfield County, South Carolina from Friday, 1 June 2007 through Sunday=
,
3 June 2007. This will be a great chance for anyone interested in starting
to record bird songs, frog calls, and other natural sounds to meet and lear=
n
from recordists who have been doing this for a while.

Our headquarters will be the Community Building at Cheraw State Park. This
park is the oldest and largest of the South Carolina State park system.
There is a good campground at the park and also a limited number of state
park cabins available. The small city of Cheraw is four miles from the park
and has a variety of motels and restaurants.

At Cheraw State Park or within a few miles of the park are a number of
high-quality Sandhills environments. In addition to the lands of the state
park we will be near Cheraw Fish Hatchery, Sandhills State Forest, and
Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge. There are also little-used
public roads into Coastal Plains habitats in the floodplain of the Great Pe=
e
Dee River. There will be opportunities to record birds songs and frog calls
of a wide variety of Sandhills and Coastal Plains habitats.
