Hi everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself as I just joined the
group. I live in Sonoma, CA (the wine country, north of SF) and have
been involved in nature sound recording for about 6 or 7 years. I'm a
friend of Bernie Krause's and have worked with him on various projects
since 2000. Thanks to him I've had the pleasure of recording in the
swamps of Georgia, Sequoia National Park, and other locations. Here's
a link to a short mp3 of some distant Barred owls I recorded at
Chickasawhatchee Swamp in Georgia (March, '03):

I'm a musician and songwriter, and my "day job" is teaching music at a
residential center for "at risk" boys here in Sonoma, called Hanna
Boys Center - www.hannacenter.org
I also have some expertise in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and
am interested in ways it might be used to combine soundscape
recordings with other geographic layers.
I've not been very active as a recordist as of late, but I'm coming
back into it. I joined this group so that I might learn a thing or
two, and even chime in from time to time.
Thanks, and have a Happy New Year!
Jack Hines
