Unfortunately some engineers (all young) have started to assume that "VU meter" is a generic term for a level indicator. It's really a precise term of art referring to one type of mechanical meter only. It's possible to simulate its response, of course, and it's legitimate to have a "VU" scale on an electronic meter. You'll see "peak or VU" choices available on some pro gear. -Dan Dugan |
