Sound Devices and other manufacturers of both hardware and software
are in the process of implementing the iXML system for metadata,
which goes beyond bext.
This subject came up at a Gotham Sound/Posthouse seminar in New York
this past weekend. The issue is of interest not only to those who
record for film, but for any recordist who is interested in using
metadata to catalogue and find recordings. If you know the metadata
capabilities of, for example, Adobe Photoshop, you know the potential
for more sophisticated metadata capabilities for sound.
In case anyone is interesed, I have started a discussion that follows
up on the Gotham Sound seminar, about this issue, at Jeff Wexler's
site at http://jwsound.net/SMF/

A listening room is not nature."
