There is one quirk that makes the "multi-track" function useful to a field =
recordist: if you're recording in the field with just one mike.

While the stereo mode is limited to just that, and you can't record just on=
e track while in stereo mode, you CAN record just one track while in "multi=
-track" mode. So you can double the length of recording time on a given car=
d.  (This is according to the online manual, I haven't held one of these re=
corders yet.)

The multi-track mode is also limited to 16 bit 44.1, whereas the stereo mod=
e offers higher rates.
