All,
I am on the Mississippi river and during an anniversary celebration
of the first railroad bridge across the river at Davenport, Iowa the
promoters arranged to have a steam locomotive with passenger cars
and a River boat for tours. As I sat at home I could hear the
meeting of the two old-timers over the edge of the bluff. Steam
whistle from the train and the steam whistle from the boat
answering. The promoters had tourists ride the boat down river and
the train back or visa versa. The only place they actually met was
at the turnaround where I live. I should have been thinking about
this and been prepared to record.
I only post this because I have memories of both steam trains and
boats on and next to the river and didn't concern myself with this
event. I doubt that I will live long enough for it to happen again
and it is probably something that should have been recorded. So
when something unusual happens in your back yard, please be better
prepared than I was.
