For all you fellas and gals using older Case Logic storage folders
for your backup DVD/CDs, be aware of a warping issue on older Case
Logic product.
After transferring all of my archive 3500 hours to DVD - a process
begun 2.5 years ago - I was just testing the DVDs burned at the
beginning to see if they were still viable before storing them in the
safe deposit boxes we have for that purpose.
All of the outer layer DVDs were so badly warped that they would not
read. Luckily, the damage was confined only to the first 3 layers and
last 2 layers of DVD media so that only 16 of 62 DVDs were destroyed.
The warping occurred because of the tight fit and the fact that the
rings put pressure/tension on the edge of the DVD closest to them.
Not heat or any other factor.
All my media, aside from the originals, was also backed up to HD so
everything is easily recoverable. But it was still a bit of a shock.
Make sure, if you happen to be backing up your audio media on DVD and
storing them in those types of binders, that the media is absolutely
flat and has no edge pressure affecting it.
