firmware update for Microtrack 2496

Subject: firmware update for Microtrack 2496

M-Audio has posted a firmware update for the diminutive Microtrack
2496 WAV recorder. USA residents can find it here:

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=3Dsupport.drivers

The web site has a list of issues addressed by the new firmware. This
is the fourth update since the Microtrack 2496 was released in
September, 2005. It's good that M-Audio remains committed to solving
problems, although one has to wonder how much quality assurance
testing was done before the product was released for sale.

The Microtrack 2496 has been discussed in this forum on several
occasions. Klas Strandberg shared his review. Problems include
relatively noisy preamps and low voltage in the phantom power circuit
(Message 20654 and following). Raimund Specht provided a design for
an external power supply for the Microtrack that attaches to the USB port
(Message 21914). And several others have commented from time to time.
