On of the advantages of a parabolic dish is that it doesn't seem to need loads of wind protection as the mic is shielded by the dish. I bought the wind hood for my Telinga, but I have used it without in winds that made it difficult to hold the dish on target; I didn't get wind chuffing sounds. You don't need the Sun to find the focal point of the dish. I used a 100 watt bare light bulb when I was playing with using a squirrelguard as a reflector. http://www.suffolkbirds.co.uk/article/42/poor-mans- telinga |
