All the Sony Hi-MD models use the same software for recording, so they
have the same features for field use. I have never read a claim from
Sony or anyone else that one of the Hi-MD models has a better preamp
or A/D circuitry than the others have. I think they are all the same
in this regard. All can upload to a PC using SonicStage software.
There are relatively minor differences between the models:
MZ-RH10=20
NH-14WM 1350mAh NiMH battery =3D 5.5 hours of WAV recording
excellent 6 line OLED display (much easier to read, especially
in dim light)
MZ-M100
hardware same as RH10
all black finish
extra "WAV Importer" software to upload to Macintosh
includes a $50 Sony ECM-DS70P stereo "T" mic
MZ-RH910=20
NH-10WM 1000mAh NiMH battery =3D 4 hours of WAV recording
5 line LCD display, similar to most MD displays
MZ-M10
hardware same as RH910
all black finish
extra "WAV Importer" software to upload to Macintosh
includes a $50 Sony ECM-DS70P stereo "T" mic
All of the above models have mic, line and optical inputs.
All have an extra external case for a single AA battery.
The OLED display is a big improvement, and worth the extra money if
you plan to use the recorder in dim lighting. Otherwise, the RH910
and its predecessor, the NH900, work perfectly well. If you're
concerned about the battery life of the RH910, the NH-14WM battery
used in the RH10 will fit, and costs only about $15 from Internet sources.
The Sony MZ-DH10P should be avoided. It includes a digital camera
similar to those found in cell phones. It has no mic, line or optical
input, and no external AA battery case. This model was discontinued
shortly after its introduction.
