I think the NH700 preamp is the same as in the more expensive NH800
and NH900. All are out of production now, so you have to find them on
auction sites like eBay. The NH700 costs $100 to $130, the NH900 more
like $150 to $175. You can buy a brand new current model MZ-RH910 for
$170 from several online retailers, so there's little reason to pay
more than this for a Hi-MD recorder.
I'm pretty sure that the NH700 was retailed in European, Asian and
Canadian markets in 2004-2005. The USA market got the similar NH800,
which adds an AM/FM tuner.=20
Both the NH700 and NH900 have mic, line and optical inputs. The NH700
has an internal AA battery instead of the more expensive "gumstick"
NiMH rechargeable battery in the NH900. You can use a rechargeable AA
in the NH700 if you want. The NH900 has an external case for an AA
battery for those times when you need an extra few hours of recording
time.
The NH700 was replaced by the RH710 in 2005. The RH710 *does not*
have a mic input, but does have line in and optical. So you probably
want to avoid the RH710.
