Hi Klas,

Yes, it is true that the MicroTrack 24/96 only provides 30 V phantom power
(I recently measured that value on my device). This means that one has to
check the microphone specification regarding the required phantom power. Fo=
r
instance, the Sennheiser K6/ K6P series (specified for 12 ... 48 V) works
fine. In contrast, the Sennheiser MKH series for instance is officially
specified for 48 +-4 V, which is not compatible the 30 volts. Nevertheless,
I tried the MKH 60 and found that it obviously still works with that low
voltage. However, it might be that the low voltage degrades the performance
(noise and distortion) in some way (I still have not tested that). The MKH
800 definitely does not work with the MT2496. I believe that this is not a
serious problem, because someone who purchased such expensive microphones
should also be able to acquire a more professional recorder as the SD 722,
TASCAM HD-D2 or Marantz PMD671.
