Hello,
I am Michael Salo.

I have always wanted to record nature sounds and finally started on a kayak=
ing trip my family took to Prince William Sound two months ago. I borrowed =
a Sony TCD-D3 DAT recorder and bought a Sony ECM-MS957 microphone.

I need to return the recorder and the microphone is too noisy to record qui=
et ambiances. I am hoping to get advice on what to replace them with. What =
do you think about:

Recorder- Sony MZ-RH10 minidisc, MicroTrack 24/96, Maranz PMD660?
Mic - Shure VP88? (seems expensive)

I guess I like recording stereo images of places where birds, insects, frog=
s, etc move around. I have made some recordings where you can hear the wing=
 flaps of cormorants flying by.

I am currently working as an engineer evaluating disk drive perpendicular r=
ecording heads, disks and channels for Hitachi.

Well I guess that is all except that I am pretty excited about this new hob=
by and joining you all.
