I will submit this request to the electronics and field trips committees
of the MOU for a recommendation to be made. I will get back to you with
the outcome.

Subject: [Nature Recordists] GMRS radio channel

Mark,
I am trying to get the ABA to endorse a recommendation for channel
selection of portable radios. I see the MN birders are using channel
6 sub channel 6 for the FRS/GMRS radios. Do you think your group
would be willing to switch channels? The main objective would be to
drop the sub channel since there isn't a standard for the scheme of
sub channel use.
I have written about the channel selection in the last issue of
Winging-It and suggested channel 5 sub channel 0 as the primary
channel and channel 6 sub channel 0 as the back up in the event of
congestion. I am going to present the proposal to the Iowa
Ornithologists' Union at the business meeting on September 24.=20
Paul Baicich is going to present the same proposal to the National
Refuge folks during a meeting in Washington DC next week.
Thanks
Gerald White, Muscatine, IA
