hello naturerecordists,

recently Bob Planque and I have started a project which is called xeno
canto. Check it out at www.xeno-canto.org. The site will serve as an
introduction to my recording interests since this is my first message to
the list. It is about sharing, organising and recognising bird sounds
from tropical America. The message we sent announcing it to some birding
lists 2 months ago has made it's way to this group. In the mean time the
site has evolved quite a bit: more than 550 species are represented, in
850+ recordings, the database can be searched based on habitat, sound
characteristics, and location (now also using google maps). You are all
invited to share any recordings you may have, and to increase the
coverage of xeno canto.

cheers

Willem-Pier Vellinga
