Not a solution to deriving the original link;

but I love the free service provided by these folks:

Basically it generates and maintains a short forwarding URL that replaces
long and difficult-to-manage-when-mail-readers-cut-lines URLs.

For luddites such as myself still using text-only mail browsers on some
accounts, it's a real blessing!
