So I'm putting a decent field recording system. I am using the Nomad
JB3 as storage, probably the Shure FP24 as a battery powered mic-pre
(unless there's anything else comparable at that price?), and I'd
like to focus this post on the mic...
I would like to record more specific sounds than ambience. I would
like the mic to also be versatile in the sense that I could use it
for other jobs (maybe foley or dialogue). This would just be
capturing raw sounds so no timecode or anything unnecessary.
My budget is up to $800CDN (about $650-700US). I've basically
narrowed my choices down to AKG or Sennheiser. AKG has its blue line
with swappable capsules and Sennheiser have the ME66, ME67 and the
expensive MKH416 I think it is. AKG have a couple more shotguns, but
I'm sure you're more familar with them than I.
What are the general differences (maybe sound characteristics between
them)? What should I be looking for? Which do you prefer and why? Is
there something else I should be looking at?
Thanks for your help!
