For the telinga we were discussing, the 8.4 would make for a smaller voltage difference to do the charging of it's internal 7.2 volt NIMH. The 8.4's are a fairly recent thing. When I got into charging the telinga with 9.6volt NIMH there was only one brand of those available, the Plainview batteries. Now there are all kinds of brands.
