soundcard advice please

I am building a new PC computer and would like to have some advice 
for my sound card selection.  I would like to keep the price at or 
below 200 dollars and wonder if there are any cards in that price 
range that will do a good job for me.  My playback will be to 
headphones for some time so any channels other than stereo would not 
be necessary.  I will use the computer for editing sounds recorded 
with my minidisk.  I do not have ambitions to create files for any 
commercial purpose but I do not want to embed artifacts and 
distortions during the editing and playback.  Thanks in advance for 
any feedback.
