connecting a line level signal to a mic input will always create 
problems, first noise because there's way too much amplification, and 
then distortion of higher-level recordings for the same reason.

There are line-to-mic attenuating cables made to solve this problem, 
Sony RK-115A for one. They pad the line level down to mic level. Not 
the optimum way to transfer, but adequate for learning the craft.
