I have read in several lists that Tom Erbe's +spectralcompand does a 
fabulous job. Its a "highly tunable broadband noise remover, capable 
of removing hiss, hum and machine noise, without damaging the 
original sound" Also for eq and several other applications. Might be 
more compolicated to use than the Wave product though.
