This is one of a large number of "digital
wallet" devices aimed at helping digital
photographers transfer data from flash memory
to a small portable hard disc. Similar
gadgets have names like X-Drive II, Tripper
Super Digibin 2, Image tank, Flashtrax, and
I/O Magic. You can read reports from the field
about these products here:
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=3D1023
It takes 5-10 minutes to transfer the contents of
a 1GB card to the hard disc. There are a couple
of portable CD burners on the market, but they are
not very practical in the field because it takes
up to an hour for these battery-powered gadgets
to burn a CD copy of your Compactflash data.
A new "digital wallet" that *may* make more sense
for audio recordists rather that photographers is
the Archos Gmini 120. It *may* have the ability to
play back your WAV, MP3 and WMA recordings in the
field. The other digital wallets I've looked at can't.=20
I qualify this statement because the Gmini probably
stores audio files downloaded from the compactflash slot
separately from the music files it downloads from a PC.=20
The Gmini may only be able to play back files in the
"music" area. I'll try to figure this out.
