Since the Portadisc was originally aimed at ENG, I think HHB chose the minidisc primarily for its ruggedness and low media costs. Sony's 6cm minidisc mechanism can write data at a top speed of 1,200 kbps. CD-quality two channel recording in WAV format requires (16 * 44.1 * 2 channels) = 1,422 kbps So even if HHB wanted to use WAV instead of ATRAC, the minidisc is unable to keep up with the uncompressed CD quality two channel WAV data stream. If WAV recording is your preference, then HHB offers the PortaDrive, which may actually ship in early 2004, after 18 months of teaser previews at trade shows. --oryoki ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Your use of Yahoo!
