Well, a HHb Portadisc would be a optimum preamp to make the best
recorder out of it. You put the pocket PC in it's case where it will be
reasonably safe, and record with the Portadisc.
But, if you insist on suffering while recording, probably Sound Devices
USB pre would do. It's very similar in it's characteristics to the much
loved MP2 pre.
Before falling in love with this, take it out in the sunny outdoors and
look at the screen. Think about juggling it out there. Then go out and
do the same on a rainy day, and on a dewy day, and in a snowstorm. You
are wanting field gear, not indoors gear. Put it through it's paces as
field gear.
