Dear members,
I am a new member from Sri Lanka. As suggested by the moderator I write dow=
n here my background of sound recording first.
I am a birder and interested in recording bird sounds.
As there were no sound guides available in my country for me to learn about=
bird sounds I started to record for my own learning purpose, about fifteen=
years ago. I used basic equipment and was able to record sounds of many bi=
rds from most parts of Sri Lanka. Although these were not high quality reco=
rdings I thought of publishing some of the recorded sounds thinking that it=
will also help other Sri Lankan birdwatchers to learn about our bird sound=
s. Then I produced a sound guide comprising of two cassettes in ' 97 and ' =
98 respectively and unexpectedly it became quite popular amongst our birdw=
atchers.
There after I managed to got hold of a Marantz PMD 430 cassette recorder an=
d also started recording other wildlife sounds.
However my Marantz cassette recorder has also now started to giving the sa=
me fault as in Mark Phinney's Marantz recorder, which he describes in his r=
ecent massage to the group. Is this fault unique to Marantz recorders?
I have a great difficulty in fixing the problem as there is no agent for M=
arantz in Sri Lanka. Can a member with technical background or with previou=
s experience of a such problem can give me any advice on how to deal with f=
ixing the problem?
Thank you,
Deepal Warakagoda
