This is my second try at building my own mike using the Telinga
dish. The staff is similar to one Rich Peet is using. I do
not have the mic elements mounted yet, waiting on advice before
designing the mount. It will fit in a piece of tube which will slip
into the PVC at the center of the dish. The staff is easily opened
and is a secure collapsible walking stick from Stoney Point,it
weighs in at 7 1/2 ounces. The knob unscrews for a 1/4 inch camera
mount, the knob also comes as an accessory with a compass mounted in
the top. The rubber tip at the bottom can be removed to expose a
steel pointed tip which can be stuck into the ground so the unit
will stand free. I replaced the original strap with mine and it
can be adjusted with a slider helping to counter the torque on your
wrist if you prefer this hold. An alternate hold is to stick the
staff in your pocket or prop it against your leg and let it carry
the weight. Of course you can carry the dish with the staff
extended, resting it on the ground to record. I would provide a
complete list of parts if anyone requests them.
