There is an alternative - the Sony MDS-PC3 is a computer-interfaced editing
deck that has, unfortunately, been discontinued by Sony. There is one now
on e-bay at
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3028995719&category=4786.
They sold new for about $350 and are going on e-bay at $300+ .
I love mine, couldn't do without it. The convenience of having the editing
deck interfaced with the computer and sound editor is great. It has digital
transfer capability, too, though I find that the difference between digital
and analog transfers, at least with a decent sound card, is negligible.
