Since we're talking about announced products that lack corporeal
form, check out Core Audio's update on their portable
digital recorder project:
http://www.core-sound.com/HighResRecorderNews.html

The system has three components:

--a portable two channel mic preamp and 24/96 A/D converter

--a digital input card for PCs or Pocket PC PDAs (!)
that accepts S/PDIF optical and coax signals up to
  192,000 samples/second

--software for the PC or PDA

Cost for all three is supposed to be less than $1,000.
Whether this turns out to be a substitute for a Nagra V
remains to be seen...

The announcement says that the digital input card is now
available in limited quantities (read: beta test form),
with production to begin this summer.
