Well, I finally got to meet with Rob Danielson about organizing a
spring recording outing in WI. This is still a work in organization.

I was in Milwaukee to hear his presentation of "In thin Air" which is
an artistic work performed at the UWM Planetarium. The 8 channel
sound in this circular space was wonderful. An abstract visual
experience within the dome with a sound system that allowed for full
dynamic range of the sound played. In this sound stage he was able
to use a full range of sound and light textures that noone building
for the general public could get away with. Well done and candy for
the eyes and ears. Now I want a Planetarium for a sound stage too.

Anyway back to the real post:

We plan to have a camp out not far from Lacross WI near to Lafarge
WI. This is a river valley where the US gov kicked everyone out
years ago to build a damn and flood a valley. After years of work to
accomplish nothing the people of the area and the local tribe got
rights of the land back and as of right now it is still undeveloped.
A few jets will do flyovers but the soundscape and diversity is great
here.

We are looking at the third weekend in May. Sat and Sun dawn and all
the times around. We currently expect around a dozen or so people.
This will include various setups to try and various professionals
that are comming for the fun of it and not tied to a tree for
exhibits for anyone else. Currently I expect a Professional
Photographer/recordist, a pro birder, a pro instructor in video, and
at least 3 natural sound published recordists. I also expect at
least three people that are new to the field and in it for the fun as
well. I also expect a few spouses that want to determine if there
are others like their mate that disappear for days at a time and
return talking about things that go bump.

I hope that all get to try and exchange various equipment.
We hope to have at least these toys to play with:
1. A 200 yard, 8 channel array.
2. A double SASS w MKH-110's setup for 5.1
3. A 8' x 8' corner reflector stereo mic, The foam blockhead stereo
mic, and a few other homemade things.
4. The Telinga parabolic
5. Two 32" and a 24" parabolic.
6. A shotgun mic
7. A bunch-o-stuff unknown to anyone at this time.

If you have not e-mailed me before showing an interest and might have
an interest in attending this weekend please let me know. I am
putting together a e-mail list of possibles. I am more interested in
making sure their is an outhouse for all and that the local law knows
we are there than anything else. Cost is $0 and late cancel fine is
the same. We are still working on the weather limits to cancel at
last min. if things look ugly.
