Opening "AIFF" files in Pro Tools and other MIDI programs

Hello everyone,

I have been busy for many months and opted to not receive messages
from
the group. Periodically, I check to see what is current in
discussions. So I apologize if this topic has already been covered and I
missed it. I always
enjoy seeing the latest from everyone.

Recently I decided to investigate software which would allow me to
mix
various recordings with more control than simply cutting and pasting
tracks. I
have downloaded a version of Pro Tools Free as well as a demo version
of
Cubasis to try out. These allow for more than enough channels (8) for
everything that I can ever imagine needing, however try as I may,
they do not
seem to recognize "AIFF" sound files (I'm Mac based obviously). I've
read
through the literature for both softwares and cannot find any
reference to that
file format or importing files in different formats. I have many
"pieces" recorded
over the past 2 years that I'd like to experiment with to get a
better sence of
how to work with these programs and decide which is my preference.
Short of
re-recording from original disks, I can't find a means of accessing
existing
sound files.

What am I missing? Any suggestions or guidance will be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks to everyone for the wealth of knowledge and experience you so
frrely
share!

Regards,

Howard Coneybeare
