All sarcasm aside, if you do have a need to add field playback 
capability to a minidisc or flash memory recorder, you might consider 
the following new product.  It combines a protective nylon pouch from 
Eagle Creek with the Si-5 "generation 2" battery powered speakers:

This setup provides 2 watts per channel (enough for bird song 
playback unless you're calling in an owl from the next county).  List 
price is a breathtaking $150.

If you can fabricate your own case, you might consider one of the 
portable speakers from Sony:

Creative has a new portable speaker called the TravelSound that might 
meet your needs:
