I have recordings of the snort sounds made by White-tailed Deer that
turned out reasonably well. I used a shotgun mike such as a Sennheiser.
For over 30 years I have used this kind of mike with 1 complaint. The
sound of a cricket recorded at too high a level became distorted. I
learned that sounds must be recorded at the proper level. Your
recordings will be as good as your weakess link-from mike to the type
of tape recorder. -----Original Message-----

Subject: [Nature Recordists] Please Help, very new to recording
I just purchased a MZ-R30 Mini Disk recorder on ebay. The first
animal i will try to record is a whitetail deer. During their
vocalizations, they are in heavy cover. I was told that a parabolic
microphone would not record, through this heavy cover. Is there
another kind of micropone i can get for this type of recording?
