Neither device gives a way to monitor audio
levels, so this is not a very good combination
for critical recording.  You might try

(1) the combination of the Denecke AD20 and a
Sharp or Sony Minidisc recorder connected by
digital audio cable.  You could monitor levels
on the minidisc display and control levels via
the AD20;

or

(2) using a SoundDevices MP2 pre-amp and the
analog-in port of the Archos recorder.  The MP2
has LEDs that show audio levels. The MP2 costs
about twice as much as the AD20, however, so
the minidisc route would be less expensive.
